Tips for Beginners

Tips for Beginners

So you just received your kalimba and aren't sure what to start working on?

Let me just say, everybody started as a beginner at one point or another. If this is your first time hearing about kalimbas or you are just starting, don't let that discourage you from practicing and learning new songs. The most important thing to remember is don't get frustrated. If there is a note sequence or song that is giving you trouble, take a break and try again tomorrow.

A good habit to further develop your skills is to play 15 minutes a day. Yes, you can still play an hour if you want, but in order to strengthen the tips of you fingers/nails, develop rhythmic timing, and memorize songs, 15 minutes is the minimum. The goal of repetition is that one day, you think 15 minutes go by playing the kalimba, when in reality it was an hour.
